Bloomfield College is pleased to announce that its first show of the 2018 season, Dance Your Story, will open its doors on Friday, February 9, at 7:00 p.m. A reception will be held at 6:00 p.m. This event is one of many events being held in celebration of the College’s 150th anniversary.

Presented by the Company @ Bloomfield College, Bloomfield College’s first theater company, in conjunction with the Divisions of Creative Arts and Technology and Humanities, the reception and performance will be held on campus in the Center for Technology+Creativity.

Preparing the students for the big show in the days leading up to the performance is special guest Kyle Marshall. Marshall is a 2017 New Jersey Artist Fellowship recipient from the NJ State Council of the Arts. He is a graduate of Rutgers University with a BFA in Dance and dances with the Trisha Brown Dance Company and Doug Elkins Choreography.

His company, Kyle Marshall Choreography (KMC), was recently named “New to Watch” by Trina Mannino of Dance Europe Magazine. His company sees the moving body as a celebration of a beautiful form, a container of history and an igniter of social disruption. KMC has performed throughout the tri-state at venues including Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out, DanceNow Joe’s Pub, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Harlem Stage: EMoves, Movement Research at Judson Church, NYC Summerstage, Montclair Dance Festival, Jersey City Theater Center, Wassaic Arts Project, and Conduit Dance (PDX).

Bloomfield College is just one of a number of colleges and universities to collaborate with Marshall. His Company has also guest taught at DeSales University, Muhlenberg College, Ailey/Fordham University, Montclair University, and Basin Arts in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Friday’s performance will highlight the dances the students have created with Marshall, who will help Bloomfield College tell their personal stories through contemporary dance.

The College encourages the campus community as well as the public to attend this FREE event on Friday, February 9. To reserve your seat, please email Dr. Harris-Ramsby, Assistant Professor of Writing and Rhetoric, at fiona_harris-ramsby@bloomfield.edu.
