Bloomfield College Men's Basketball Honored in Historic Awards Announcement

Bloomfield College is proud to announce player Kavione Green ’19 has been named the 2019 CACC Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year. For the first time since becoming an NCAA Division II program, Bloomfield College boasts a single men's basketball player winning both of these titles in the same season.
 
Green had a terrific all-around season in helping to lead Bloomfield to a 19-9 overall record during the regular season and a 17-2 mark in league play, as the Bears locked up the CACC North Division Championship and the No. 1 overall seed in this week's CACC Men's Basketball Championship.
 
He ranks sixth in the league in scoring at 19.3 points per game, while topping the CACC at 11.0 rebounds an outing. Green ranks second in the league in total points scored at 540. He also ranks in the top 10 in several other categories including steals (8th, 44), blocks (10th, 21), field goals made (3rd, 197), three-point field goals made (6th, 62) and three-point percentage (5th, 40.3%).
 
Gerald Holmes, Head Coach of men's basketball, has been named CACC Coach of the Year for the 2nd consecutive year. Holmes has been Head Coach at the College for 17 years. The mastermind behind one of the East Region's elite programs, Holmes has guided Bloomfield College to seven CACC Tournament championships, with the program earning eight trips to the NCAA Tournament during his tenure. Reaching the East Regional Final in both the 2010-11, 2011-12 AND 2017-18 seasons, Bloomfield College became the first CACC program (men's or women's) to capture an East Regional championship in '10-'11, earning the first berth to the NCAA Division II Basketball's Elite Eight in conference history.  A three-time All-Met Basketball Coach of the Year, Coach Holmes earned his first CACC Coach of the Year nod during the 2008-09 season, second during the 2013-14 campaign and third after last year’s 2017-18 campaign.
 
March 5 marked the opening round to the CACC post-season Tournament. Overall No. 1 seed Bloomfield College (North #1) downed South No. 4 Wilmington University by a count of 105-86, advancing the College to the semifinal round to be played at Caldwell this Saturday. The Bears shot 52 percent from the field. 
 
Kavione Green poured in a team-high 31 points to lead the Bears to the opening-round win over the Wildcats. He also ripped down 13 rebounds, as the Bears held a commanding 55-28 advantage on the glass. Keith Washington also got into the double-double act for Bloomfield with 11 points and 16 assists. Washington was named to the All-CACC 2nd Team.
 
Bloomfield College has a chance at its 8th CACC Championship in 15 years.
